Lately {on instagram}

Wow. The last three weeks really flew by. I’m not quite sure where the time went!? At the end of February, I made the move from my downtown (St. John’s) apartment to my parent’s place. Surprisingly, it wasn’t too hectic– but moving is definitely time consuming and tiring! I was so incredibly tired by the end of the day.

But here I am. Living out of a few suitcases at my parents place. I’m actually flying to Ottawa (for the big move!) on Thursday, which is so. damn. exciting! I’ll be staying with a friend until April 1st (my move-in date!). I’m not going to lie, posts will be scattered until I get set up in my new place; but as always, you can follow me on instagram: @lsandlattes!

Here are a few recent insta-snaps!

I finally ordered my 2015 Erin Condren Life Planner! This is actually my third life planner, and I wouldn’t trade it for any other! (#Obsessed!).

I also can’t believe that we are half way through March! Amazing. Spring will soon be here!

One of my favourite beverages from Starbucks: an iced carmel macchiato!

I picked up this gorgeous Ashley Brooke Designs mug here in St. John’s last weekend. It’s kinda neat that one of our boutiques have them in stock!

love Essie nail polishes. This one is my newest– it’s called “Rock at the Top.”

Another Starbucks favourite: Cool lime refresher! Perfection.

St. Patrick’s Day nails ;)

My go-to Essie polish (Sand Tropez) with a little sparkle (Rock at the Top).

XO!

The Moving Diaries – Part one

love Sundays. It’s my only day off work, so it’s definitely a day that I look forward to– you know, sleeping in, taking extra long showers, laundry, etc. This Sunday, however, is a little different. This is actually my very last Sunday in my downtown St. John’s apartment! I haven’t been here very long (since last June), but I do pride myself on saying that this is my very first apartment that is completely mine (aka, no roommates/significant others etc.).

I’ll be moving out of my place by the end of this week, so I’ve been really busy packing and figuring out what days are best for my family to help me move. To make things a little easier, I wrote out a “to-do” list for the week in my notebook. This pretty much sums it up:

movingtodolist1

By the end of the week, I’ll be out of here and spending the majority of March at my parents place. Things are going to be a little disorganized for those weeks (since I’ll be living out of my suitcases), but I’m quite excited to be packing up!

IMG_5250

I do plan on blogging daily (eventually), but it probably won’t be happening this week (due to the move). But I definitely have a few beauty & style posts coming up this week, so pop back! And remember, you can always follow me throughout the week on my instagram: lsandlattes!

The Moving Diaries

Whenever I tell people that I’m moving back to Ottawa, I (usually) receive a blank stare… followed by several questions: But didn’t you just move back here (Newfoundland), from Ottawa? Oh, you lived in Toronto too? Why are you moving so much? …And on and on.

There are a few reasons as to why I moved back to Newfoundland– but ultimately, my heart is in Ottawa; and I am incredibly excited to make this my home. It’s going to take some work, but I’m ready to plant a few little seeds and really try to start my career in the capital! I’m moving in less than six weeks! I cannot get over it. Sometimes, I feel as if six weeks is pretty much AGES; and other times, I’m panicking– There’s so much to do! So for the next two months, I plan on writing a little about my move…

themovingdiaries

Since I am moving completely by myself, I plan on writing a little about how I am saving my money for the move, living alone, packing, and so forth (if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments!). I’ll be posting “the Moving Diaries” once a week, and it will be on Sundays! Stay tuned ;)

My Go-To Hair Products

Over the years, I’ve tried several hair products (which certainly includes the long journey struggle to find the perfect dry shampoo). I have very fine hair, and it’s coloured– so I’m always looking for something that will A) protect the colour as much as possible, B) add volume, and C) really give my hair a little TLC (since the ends tend to get dry pretty quickly!). So here we go, my go-to hair products:

IMG_5120

MY GO-TO HAIR PRODUCTS

TIGI Bed Head Styleshots Epic Volume Shampoo & Conditioner | Sebastian Drynamic Dry Shampoo | Oribe Lacquer Heat Styling Spray | Oribe Volumista Mist

IMG_5121

TIGI Bed Head Styleshots Epic Volume ($20.99) | I’m a HUGE fan of Bumble and Bumble, and have been using their shampoo and condition for about a year (I highly suggest you try their shampoos out if you haven’t already!). But in the last little while, I’ve been using TIGI’s Bead Head Styleshots Shampoo and Conditioner (mainly because I’m unable to buy Bumble and Bumble in Newfoundland). I’ve used Bead Head before, and I really like their products, so this particular shampoo and condition was no exception. Plus, it smells amazing! (And is super affordable!).

IMG_5123

Sebastian Drynamic Dry Shampoo (~$18) | My gosh. The search for a good dry shampoo has finally ended! I’ve been through so many over the years, that it’s kind of ridiculous. So far, Sebastian’s Drynamic Dry Shampoo is at the top of my list. It’s a spray, and while it does come out a little white, it is less noticeable than other dry shampoos. I’ve used this when my hair was dark brown, violet, and even red– it works perfectly! You can’t even tell that dry shampoo was used ;) And oh, I also use a little of this product at my roots to give my hair a little volume!

IMG_5122

Oribe Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray ($34) | I came across Oribe when I lived in Toronto, and I am so glad that I found this amazing line of products! Not only is the scent beyond alluring (so amazing that I once bought their hair perfume!), but the products give you that “just back from the salon” feel! I love it. I use the Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray when my hair is dry, and just before I flat iron (or curl) it.

IMG_5124

Oribe Volumista Mist ($39) | Since I have fine hair, I’m always trying to find ways to add volume. I do add a little hairspray (which is my least favourite option– I hate the crunchy hard feeling), and sometimes I do tease my roots– but my absolute favourite way to add volume to my hair is to add Oribe’s Volumista Mist to my roots (when wet). Once my hair is blow-dried, I then add a little dry shampoo to my roots ;)

What is one hair product that you swear by?

Being home… alone!

I’ve been living completely on my own since last June, and I must admit: I love being home… alone! Making the decision to live on my own was huge. I’ve never done it before– I’ve always lived with my parents, with roommates, or with a significant other. Never just me. But here I am, nearly nine months later… happy as a clam in my own little place!

Of course, there are a few downsides to living alone (*ahem* like when you’re sick, and there’s no one around to care for you!); and it does take a little while to get use to– but overall, I think I prefer it! (Well, at this stage in my life anyway!).

I thought it would be fun to list a few things that I enjoy doing at home, completely alone ;)

ONE | Writing in my journal
In the last few years, I’ve been keeping a paper journal. I enjoy taking about twenty minutes out of my day (usually on Sundays) to just write… about anything and everything! During this time, I like to be completely alone with my thoughts. Zero distractions. I love the fact that this is easily done when living alone. No outside distractions. It’s perfect!

TWO | Taking a hot bath
Normally, I take baths when I’m super stressed or when I’m trying to concentrate on something. Whichever one it is, I do need complete silence and little distraction (much like writing in my journal). Plus, I can take as long as I want! There’s no one knocking on the door, asking to use the bathroom ;)

THREE | Going about my morning routine
I wake up fairly early during the weekdays (6:00AM), and I’m quite set in my routine (which of course, includes a loud blowdryer and some Drake playing in the background). When I lived with my ex, I would have to tip-toe around the apartment since he usually woke up much later. One good thing about living alone is that you don’t have to tip-toe! You can do whatever you want, whenever you want!

FOUR | Take as many selfless and snap chats as I want
I’m kinda laughing at myself for this one, but it’s so true! As a blogger (and a human!), I love taking selfies (especially when I perfect the cat-eye, or have a good brow day, LOL), and snapchatting the most random things. And let’s admit it– it may get a little awkward when your roommate walks in, “what are you doing?” “Are you really going to snap chat that!?” — AHEM. Yes. We’ve all been there! Living alone allows me to happily snap away, guilt free! ;)

Whether you live alone or not, what is your favourite thing to do when you’re alone?

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

I’m not going to lie– I freaking love Valentine’s Day (and not necessarily because everyone tends to be extra lovey-dovey either). Is it bad that I enjoy Valentine’s Day because I just LOVE seeing the pink/purple/red colour combinations? Oh come on… admit it, they make the shopping aisles a little prettier, no? ;) — But yes, in all honesty, I do love the holiday. I could be in a relationship, or single (which is the case at the moment)… I’m still going to love it!

Last year, I bought these gorgeous Tory Burch flats (for myself) for Valentine’s Day (umm yeah, I’m good to myself like that! Ha!). This year? I’ll probably treat myself to a Starbucks treat ;) But whether you’re in a relationship or single this year, here are a few (late) gift ideas:

Fresh start!

I’m actually amazed at how many times I’ve typed up this post, only to erase it completely. My blog pretty much fell completely off the radar in 2014. With a big move, some big life changes, and losing the majority of my blog files (don’t worry, I’ve learned my lesson), my blog and social media life was pretty much M.I.A. Despite writing a few blog posts here and there in the summer and fall, blogging seems so foreign to me right now (how odd!). But, here I am– ready to dive right in, and with a new name– Lipsticks and Lattes!

Kate Spade New York bow earrings

Last Christmas, I picked up the ever-so-popular bow ring from Kate Spade ($48, but the silver version is now on sale for $19!); and I’ve been wearing it ever since! It’s actually one of my favourite pieces of fashion jewelry, and I feel so naked without it!

Kate Spade Bow Ring

When I was in Ottawa a few weeks ago, I was browsing through the Hudson’s Bay Company when I noticed that they now sell Kate Spade jewelry! This is great news if you don’t have a KSNY or Holts store near you (and well, shipping and duties are ridiculous for us Canadians!). After browsing their selection, I ended up picking out a pair of matching bow earrings!

I absolutely love these studs, and wear them daily!

Ottawa and Toronto Recap

Earlier this month, I managed to put everything aside here in Newfoundland and traveled to Ottawa for a few days. Despite my initial flight with Porter Airlines being cancelled, I had a wonderful trip and was smiling from ear to ear the entire time! Here are a few photos and tidbits from my trip–

Ottawa

ONE | I was pretty bummed out that my initial flight with Porter was cancelled due to fog on that Friday evening. Thankfully, I managed to rescheduled my flight to Monday morning (I am so grateful that my work allowed me to take the extra days off!). After arriving in Ottawa, my first stop was to hit up Magpie Jewelry and pick up the “Ottawa necklace” by Ottawa jewelry designer Lissa Bowie! It was actually the last one in stock, so I’m glad I got my hands on one ;)

Ottawa

TWO | Of course, I made several pitstops into Sephora, LUSH, the Hudson Bay Company, etc. PS: Did you know the Bay now sells Kate Spade jewelry!?

Ottawa

THREE | A trip to Ottawa isn’t a proper trip if shawarma isn’t involved ;) I was so excited to grab a chicken shawarma platter from one of my favourite places on Rideau street! The following morning, I woke up bright and early and had a lovely breakfast at the BagelShop in Westboro :)

Ottawa

FOUR | My days in Ottawa were jammed packed. I mean, I arrived late Monday afternoon; spent Wednesday in Toronto; and flew back to Newfoundland on Thursday afternoon. So, my schedule was super busy, as I tried my best to see old friends, co-workers, parts of town, etc. Thankfully, I did have a few hours to just sit, relax, and really enjoy the present moment.

Ottawa

FIVE | I really couldn’t have asked for better weather when I was there. It was fairly mild, and I even wore a sweater (no jacket!) during an afternoon walk through Westboro.

Ottawa

SIX | While in Westboro, I made a stop into one of my favourite cupcake places in Ottawa– the Cupcake Lounge! Oh so good!

Ottawa

SEVEN | Continuing with the food theme, I may have also stopped into the French Baker on Bank Street for some amazing french macrons!

Ottawa

EIGHT |  One of my favourite things to do in Ottawa (usually on Sunday afternoons) is to have afternoon tea at Nectar Fine Teas! The spread is amazing, and the service is always top-notch!

Ottawa

NINE | While in Ontario, I decided to take a very late Greyhound bus to Toronto (at like, 1:00AM!). Not only did I want to see Laura and pop into Tory Burch and Kate Spade (ha!), but I also wanted to just visit Toronto again. I mean, it kind of blows my mind that I was living there in April (where my life was very different from what it is now). I left Toronto fairly abruptly, and not on the best terms… so I just felt I had to be back and just process a few emotions (whoa, #realtalk!).

Toronto

TEN | After much shopping, Laura and I ended the day with a lovely lunch at Joeys! It was great visiting the city, and seeing a great friend :)

Toronto

ELEVEN | My Greyhound bus left Toronto around 4PM, and I was super exhausted! I did end up getting a few goodies (including these adorable Kate Spade bow booties!), which I’ll blog about later on this week ;)

Although it was short, my trip to Ottawa and Toronto was perfect! I enjoyed every second there– and I am so incredibly excited for the spring, as I will be calling Ottawa my permanent home!

Target Canada haul

One of my favourite things to do on Sundays (other than sleeping in), is to hit up Target. I’m always finding great things there (like these Michael Kors look-a-like wedges, these Mossimo Hartley booties, and let’s not forget about this gorgeous J.Crew look-a-like statement necklace!). Yep, I’m obsessed.

I needed to pick up a few things for today’s flight, so I decided to check out Target. And oops…

Target Canada HaulWhat I bought:
Champion sweater (which ties up in the middle) | Champion Tank | Essie “Big Spender” Polish | Covergirl Mascara | RUSK W8less Hairspray | Dove Deodorant | Olay Travel Body Wash | Ardell Fake Lashes | DUO Lash Glue

Target Canada Haul

I briefly mentioned that my flight to Ottawa was cancelled on Friday. The funny thing about it, is that my cousin was flying with me (same time, but different airline). So her flight took off, without a hitch; while mine was delayed and ultimately, cancelled. I didn’t have any check-in baggage (only a carry-on), so I put all of my liquids and make-up in my cousin’s luggage. So, erm yes, I’ve been makeup-less all weekend (oh, the horror!). Thus, the Covergirl and hairspray purchases ;)

What have you bought at Target lately?
